Australian Commonwealth Horse units arrive in South Africa 10 March 1902

The 2nd Commonwealth Horse (made up of 3 squadrons of Victorians with a squadron of South Australians and one of Western Australians) arrived at Durban on 10 March 1902 and assembled at Klerksdorp on 10 April under Colonel De Lisle who was part of Thorneycroft's Column for the final drive against the Boers in the Western Transvaal in mid-May 1902. They were joined by the 1st Australian Commonwealth Horse made up of NSW men which arrived at Durban on 19 March 1902. De Lisle's Australian Brigade was the most successful of all the units in the drive to capture Boer commandos. They returned to Klerksdorp on the 21 May.
