Details of service in war: Nesbitt's Horse (about 300 strong) was formed in the eastern Cape Colony by Colonel R A Nesbitt in December 1899. They took part in the advance from Bloemfontein to Pretoria, then in the second (guerrilla) phase of the war they were in Cape Colony.
Service and life after the Boer War: Walter, a 70 year old Salvation Army Brigadier in 1948, originally an Adelaide SA metallurgist & assayer with School of Mines and Boer War Trooper, converted from Judaism to join Salvation Army and left Adelaide circa 1903-4. He married Alice and lived in Marrickville NSW. In WW1 a Salvation Army Padre stationed in Le Havre France who originated the 'Hop In' kangaroo symbol used again in WW2. He remained a Military Chaplain between the wars serving in WW2 as a Salvation Army Colonel retiring after 25 years service with an Australian Efficiency Decoration.
