Personal Characteristics: A very quiet man, did not talk about the Boer War, I only knew that he served. He went to St Josephs College. Loved reading. To enlist, He had to be able to ride and shoot and pass an army medical, be single and prepared to serve for one year. Height: 174 cm, weight: 70 kg (1915).

Service and life after the Boer War: Returned to Australia 1 August 1902 on the Manchester Merchant. Married Frances. Worked as a stockman. Joined the AIF (7 Light Horse, 9th reinforcement draft) on 18 July 1915. Served in Palestine but suffered bouts of illness, returned to Australia and was discharged 17 October 1916. Travelled around Australia with my Grandmother, settled in Randwick. looked after my Mother, Brother and myself when we were evacuated out of Rabaul on the last DC 3, 28 December 1941, My father was NGVR, supposed to have been on Montevideo Maru. He was a wonderful Grandfather, passed away when I was 21.
