Details of service in war: May 1901 - April 1902 in east Transvaal including defeat at Brakpan where five of his comrades died (16 May 1901).
Service and life after the Boer War: Returned to Australia 29 April 1902 on the SS Columbian. Was a carpenter and storeman in the Singleton, NSW, widowed with one son (in school at Cessnock) in 1914. Enlisted AASC 9 September 1914, discharged 14 September 1914 for insubordiation in Sydney. Enlisted 15 Bn AIF Brisbane 22 January 1915. Wounded in action in France while serving with the 4th Pioneer Bn on 7 August 1916. Discharged medically unfit (had his toes shot off) 2 May 1917.
