Service and life after the Boer War: Returned to Australia 29 April 1902 on the SS Columbian. Was a carpenter and storeman in the Singleton, NSW, widowed with one son (in school at Cessnock) in 1914. Enlisted AASC 9 September 1914, discharged 14 September 1914 for insubordiation in Sydney. Enlisted 15 Bn AIF Brisbane 22 January 1915. Wounded in action in France while serving with the 4^th Pioneer Bn on 7 August 1916. Discharged medically unfit (had his toes shot off) 2 May 1917.
