Service and life after the Boer War: Married Ethel. World War 1. First joined the 13 Bn AIF on 13 October 1914, was discharged 28 November 1914 at his wife's request. Re-joined 7 Bn on 7 August 1916. Wounded on 29 October 1917 in France. Returned to Australia on 5 July 1918 on the grounds of invalidity due to gas poisoning, suffered at Ypers. Afterwards Settled on an allotment granted by the Government.
