Reasons to go and fight: Father was Major Donald Fraser and brother of Private Donald Fraser (died Colesburg, South Africa 28/02/1900)

Details of service in war: December 1899 - December 1900 in northern Cape Colony, Free State and Transvaal. Captured by the Boers on the 26 February 1900 and held at Pretoria until 6 June 1900. His brother, Donald Fraser, was wounded (and died on the 28 February 1900) on same day John was captured.

Service and life after the Boer War: He left Australia in 1915 as Captain in Command of the 4th Signal Troop, 4th Light Horse. He served in Gallipoli and France and was mentioned in despatches twice and received a Distinguished Service Order. On the 9 March 1916, John was appointed to command the 4th Division Signal Company and was promoted on the 1 May 1916 to Major. Promoted Lieutenant Colonel in 1919. Married Jessie Isabella Ross, daughter of James Smith Ross and Martha Smith, on the 12 March 1902 at Waverley, NSW.
