Details of service in war: April 1900 - April 1901 in Rhodesia, west Transvaal including relief of Mafeking (16-17 May 1900), defeat at Koster River (22 July 1900) and defence of Elands River Post (4-16 August 1900), in northern Transvaal including battle of Rhenoster Kop (29 November 1900), and advance on Pietersburg.

Service and life after the Boer War: Returned on the SS Morayshire from Capetown 8 May 1901. Joined 11 Light Horse Regiment 9 March 1915, was made a saddler sergeant with Regimental Headquarters, embarked from Brisbane, Queensland, on board HMAT A7 Medic on 2 June 1915, served at Gallipoli and in Palestine, was ill, returned to Australia 5 July 1916.
