Details of service in war: From December 1899 in northwest Cape Colony including victory over rebel band at Sunnyside (1 January 1900), Free State, and east Transvaal. 21 March 1900, at Sanna's Post, rescued an Imperial Mounted Infantryman and was mentioned for bravery in UK and Australian press. Invalided to Australia, arriving 18 August 1900.
Service and life after the Boer War: Member of Qld parliament for over 39 years. Member for Wide Bay 1907-1912 then Cooroora from 1912- 1947. Secretary for agriculture and stock from 1929-32.
