Reasons to go and fight: He had resigned his job in the Union Bank in Brisbane. As both parents had died and his brother had gone to the Boer War twice, John Goodwin.

Details of service in war: Unit did not see action, but did patrol hostile areas in the Transvaal.

Service and life after the Boer War: He stayed in South Africa and fought in the Dinizulu Rebellion in 1906 where he was awarded the Natal Medal with clasp. He was a SQMS in Roystons Horse Regiment, returning to Australia in 1909.
