Details of service in war: The South Australian 'D' Squadron of 2 ACH disembarked at Durban on 14 March 1902 and proceeded by rail to Newcastle. Took part in operations around Newcastle and Botha's Post until 8 April, then moved by march and train to Klerksdorp. Was then part of the drive from Klerksdorp to Devondale Siding, the last great drive of the war. The sub-unit embarked at Durban on the Norfolk on 5 July 1902, disembarking at Largs Bay, South Australia on 31 July.
Service and life after the Boer War: Married in 1914 to Muriel Roper, they had 11 children. Ran Fruit Block at Renmark, only seven reached adulthood.
