Personal Characteristics: Pride in physical prowess as crack rifle-man and accomplished horse-rider from the Country. On RTA Annual Organiser 12th Light Horse Reunions in Sydney. Cricketer and Rugby player for Northern Suburbs, claimed represented in inter-country match against England. Comptroller of Trams, Sydney.

Reasons to go and fight: For his Country and belief his accomplishments and service would make a difference.

Details of service in war: May 1901 - May 1902 in west then east Transvaal then west Transvaal. Grandad OASA escaped death from enteric fever. Commended for replacing wounded CO and with 50 men took 500 starving Boers prisoners. Given to dramatically acting out BW exploits in old age to Grandchildren pressed into acting as extras and/or held ransom for the price of ice-creams at performance ends.(He loved a captive audience).

Service and life after the Boer War: Returned to Australia mid 1902. Married East Sydney beauty 'Poppy' Jennings. Their four daughters (including my mother, Flora all 'good lookers') and three handsome sons (all deceased) were 'a well drilled lot'. He worked steadily up to and through the Depression (Comptroller Sydney Trams) managed Tramways Union Works Cricket Team, family budget, the annual reunions of the 12 LH and the State of the Nation? Never missed an Anzac Day or a Melbourne Cup or a pretty lady! Was a "ladies' man".
