Details of service in war: The first serious skirmish involving 2 SH was at Roodekrantz in Cape Colony, on 30 April 1901. They then operated in the Orange Free Satae and Transvaal. After October 1901 the 2nd Scottish Horse continued to operate in the Eastern Transvaal. There was often severe fighting, and on 20 December 1901 the commander and another officer were killed at Lake Banagher. In February the regiment made some smart captures of influential Boers about Carolina. It was disbanded after the war ended on 31 May 1902.
Service and life after the Boer War: Worked as a carrier. Joined the AIF 6 September 1915 on and served with the 5th Pioneer Battalion in France, returned to Australia and was discharged 18 October 1919.
