Service and life after the Boer War: Arthur served in Australian Light Horse for another 4 years and 4 months. He settled back at Freestone where he worked as an insurance agent, married Eva and had three sons Arthur, Edwin and Dudley. In October 1915 he enlisted in the AIF as part of the 9th Reinforcements for 14 Bn. Transferred to 45 Bn, promoted sergeant, he was woundeed in France on 5 August 1916. Returned to Australia May 1917, blind in the right eye. Discharged 28 August 1917.
