Service and Life Before the Boer War: Archibald was born in Erskinville, Sydney. At the time of enlistment he was living in Fitzroy St, Burwood, Sydney. He appears to have put his age up by two years to go to the Boer War. It is highly likely that he was already serving reservist in the NSW Infantry at the time of enlistment
