Details of service in war: Second Lieutenant with the NSW Imperial Bushmen, Promoted Lieutenant for his tour with the Australian Commonwealth Horse. Attached to the 1st British Division commanded by Major General Methaen and appointed as the General's escort. Fought at Elands River. Dangerously Wounded at Buffel's Hoek 4th June 1901. Invalided to Australia 23rd September 1901.

Service and life after the Boer War: He was instrumental in 1923 in forming The Tamworth and District South African Soldiers' Association.
