Details of service in war: Arrived in South Africa 23 March 1900. He served in Transvaal, Orange Free State, Cape Colony. The Yeomanry, light horsemen from farming regions of the UK were Kitchener's answer to the effective Boer commandos. History records that after a disaster at Lindley involving the 13 bn, the Yeomanry did much valuable work patrolling the veldt, but saw little action.
