Pretoria 6 June 1900

After the surrender of Johannesburg, Lt Gen Hamilton's army was showing signs of distress.

The march on Pretoria started on 3 June. There was fighting at 6 Mile Spruit the next day but the Boers failed to hold their ground and left the way clear into the capital. De Lisle sent his orderly, Lieutenant Watson of the New South Wales Mounted Rifles, under a flag of truce, demanding the surrender of the city, which his unit was the first to enter.
