Details of service in war: Enlisted 18 April 1900, served until 13 March 1901 with Kitchener's Horse. Including battles at Pretoria and Diamond Hill (11 and 12 June 1900), march from the Delagoa Railway to Heidelberg in October 1900. His service with Kitchener's Scouts in the second phase of the war chiefly in the Western Transvaal. After leaving Kitchener's Horse, he enlisted in Doyle's Australian Scouts; he then served in east then west Transvaal until the war ended. This unit was disbanded in Klerksdorp, June 1902.
