Personal Characteristics: CSGT WM Kimberley joined the British Army on 13 May 1885. About a year later he transferred from the Worcesters to the Royal Scots Fusiliers.

Details of service in war: Wounded in action Colenso 15 December 1899 [Natal Field Force Casulity List]. Awarded DCM mid September 1901. Stephen Pinfield's father told me before he passed that Grandad Kimberley was captured in the battle for Kimberely but released due to his name being the same as the town and the arresting officer having the name Kimberley (translated) as well. This of course has never been varified by me but thought it an interesting story.

Service and life after the Boer War: He left the British Army on 13 July 1907, migrated to Australia and joined the Commonwealth Millitary Forces Instructional Staff in 1914. Enlisted in the AUstralian Imperial Force in 1917 for service overseas,and returned to Australia on the cessation of hostilities in 1918. He re-joined the Instructional Staff in which he remained until 25 February 1919 [Media Article sent in by descendants].
