Service and Life Before the Boer War: Thomas was born at Walcha in northern NSW. Later his father occupied a property called 'Glenrock' near Belltrees at Scone in NSW. At his enlistment Thomas described himself as a labourer. He was at Scone when the Boer War broke out and a number of men from the Belltrees area enlisted in the war.

Details of service in war: The unit saw no active operations but was involved in security duties including disarming surrendering Boers.
Service and life after the Boer War: He returned to agricultural labouring activities for the rest of his life. He married at Balman in Sydney in 1922 and had one child. During the 1930s he was at Longreach and wrote a letter of complaint to the Taxation department over incorrect Tax advice given by taxation officers in Queensland (Queensland State Income Tax).
