Details of service in war: On arrival in South Africa they were railed to De Aar. His troop, 15 in all, were selected to escort a large convey to Modder River, where they meet up with the main body of NSW Lancers and were attached to General French's No1 Brigade of mounted men. The Flying Brigade, they were the advance guard on to Bloemfontein, stricken with Enteric Fever (Typhoid) there and invalided back to Australia arriving on the 30 August 1900.
