Enslisted in the 1st AIF on 31 August 1915 Regimental Sergeant Major 2nd Remount Unit, Australian Light Horse, embarked from Sydney, New South Wales, on board HMAT A67 Orsova on 10 November 1915. Served in Egypt, Returned to Australia HMT Bulla 29 May 1917.
