Personal Characteristics: Wrote a poem to his parents, he was disillusioned with war.

Reasons to go and fight: Adventure, he was young, 20.

Details of service in war: He was in South Africa until 1903. From Harrismith we have a number of brief letters and a poem from his Boer War Service.

Service and life after the Boer War: He was a Police Constable in Yorkshire before he went to WW1. In WW1 he was wounded in the leg. He was sent home recovered and rejoined a different Unit.He sent a lovely post card from WW1. While on leave he and my grandmother conceived a child. He went back to Avsas and got blown up! (5314 Scots Guards in WW1,then 5321 Gordon Highlanders)
