Personal Characteristics: Height 172 cm.
Reasons to go and fight: Was a regular soldier in the NSW Army - enlisted 1886 when he arrived in Australia; at that point his profession was listed as 'steward'. He was the Adjt/QM of many militia units in New South Wales and was good horseman.
Details of service in the Boer war: Unit disembarked at Port Elizabeth on 17 April 1901. Served in the Western Transvaal from 23 April 1901 until 1 October of the same year, including capture of a Boer convoy on the Vaal on 24 May, and De La Rey's convoy of 106 wagons along with cattle and ammunition near Klerksdorp. Then from October 1901 until April 1902 in eastern Transvaal where they engaged in many night marches and captured 1,000 prisoners. For example a march from Brugspruit (near Witbank) over the Wilge River to Doornek and return, a distance of 145 kilometres on 11 March 1902. 2LT Molloy was the Transport Officer of 2 NSWMR. [Murray]
Service and life after the Boer War: Disembarked at Sydney 4 June 1902. Laurence Molloy continued to serve in the Army, passed No 1 School of infantry in 1903. His military service record only consists of two pages, his enlistment attestation 13 January 1886, and a record of schools and courses attended 1893 - 1903 (see below). He was too old for WW1.
