Details of service in war: Service: From April 1900 in Rhodesia, west Transvaal including the attempted relief of Elands River Post (the fight at Koster River 4-16 August 1900). He was invalided home possibly with Enteric fever arriving 30 August 1900. He returned to South Africa and served again with the 3rd NSW Imperial Bushmen. Serving May 1901 - May 1902 in west then east Transvaal then west Transvaal.

Service and life after the Boer War: He published an autobiography 'Roll the Summers Back' Jacaranda Press Brisbane 1961. Chapter 20 dealt with his Boer War experiences. He also wrote for the Bulletin under the pseudonym 'Spinifex'.
