Details of service in the Boer war: Was Colonel Cox's Regimental Sergeant Major, serving April 1901 - April 1902 in Free State and East Transvaal including Boer breakthrough at Langverwacht (24 February 1902).
Service and life after the Boer War: Continued to serve in the Australian Instructional Corps, married Emma. Promoted Captain on 1 January 1913, he was on the staff of RMC Duntroon when it was formed. He was in the UK when promoted Major 12 December 1914 and allocated for duty with the British Army. 30 November 1915 Mentioned in Despatches, 1 January 1916 awarded the Military Cross, 8 October 1916, Mentioned in Despatches. 26 October 1917 was taken on strength AIF, and posted as a staff officer HQ 3 Div. Served with 40 Bn in France where he was wounded 9 June 1918. Was promoted Lieutenant Colonel 2 September 1918 and made a staff officer with 5 Div and awarded the Criox de Geurre by the French government. Awarded Order of the British Empire. Continued to serve after WW1, promoted Brigadier when placed on the Retired List 12 October 1947. He retired to Sylvania, a southern Sydney suburb.
