Details of service in war: On 5 November 1899, Major-General Sir Edward Yewd Brabant, KCB, CMG raised the Light Horse regiment known as Brabant's Horse. The top strength of the unit was 600, all ranks, including South African colonials, Australians, British, Canadians. The unit saw much action against Boer commandos. Brabant's Horse was disbanded in Cape Town on 31 December 1901. This 1 st battalion Australian Commonwealth Horse proceeded by train from Durban to Newcaslte on 19 March 1902, and thrence to Klerksdorp on 10 April, arriving at the latter place on the 13th. Joined Column under the command of Colonel De Lisle, which formed part of Thornycroft's Brigade. This Column was inspected by Lord Kitchener on 22 April, who expressed himself as pleased with the appearence of men and horses.

Service and life after the Boer War: Returned to Australia: 9-13 August 1902 on Drayton Grange. Presumably continued to work as a grocer and imbibed a little.
