Personal Characteristics: Stern, no nonsense person. My father and his brother found him hard to get along with, I think mainly to PTSD?.
Reasons to go and fight: He arrived from London in 1899. Felt compelled to enlist due to links with "Dear Old England", so I was told.

Service and life after the Boer War: Became a rich man, but lost it all in the Great Depression. Had Blackwater Fever in South Africa which plagued him all his life. I was 10 years old when he died, so didn`t know him very well. I have a large collection of Boer War memorabilia, some of which he left to me in his will.
