Details of service in war: December 1899 - December 1900 in northwest Cape Colony including victory over rebel band at Sunnyside 1 January 1900, relief of Douglas 2 January 1900, relief of kimberley February 1900. Slightly wounded at Constantia 5 May 1900. Free State, and east Transvaal.

Service and life after the boer war: Returned to Australia 17 January 1901 on the Orient. Was married to Ethel Jane and was living at Biggenden, Queensland in 1916. Enlisted in the 5th Light Horse AIF (21st Reinforcement) on 16 March 1916. Promoted Lance Sergeant on the voyage to Egypt. Served in Palestine wih the Australian Provost Corps (Military Police). Returned to Australia 16 March 1919.
