Personal Characteristics: A young 18 year old from Emu Plains NSW when he joined the Army.

Reasons to go and fight: He was a member of the NSW Battery to Soudan in 1885. At the time of his death in 1963 he was remembered as the last member of the NSW Contingent to the Soudan War. Full time soldier in A Battery NSW Permanent Forces. This unit was the only permanent Australian unit to serve in South Africa.

Details of service in war: February 1900 - August 1901 in Cape Colony and Transvaal.

Service and life after the Boer War: Served ANMEF New Guinea 2/11/1914 to 11/12/15. 3rd Bty ANMEF Master Gunner. He joined 3 Battery Naval and Military Forces Tropical Unit in 1914 as a gunner he was promoted to sergeant 16/11/1914. Promoted Warrant Officer Class 2 9 September 1915. His medals are displayed in the museum at Victoria Barracks Paddington NSW. When George passed away, he was the last survivor of the Artillery contingent to the Boer War.
