Details of service in war: Was a Bugler then Trooper in Kitchener's Horse who saw service in Cape Colony, Orange Free State and Transvaal. Discharged 30 March 1900 as medically unfit after 64 days of service.

Service and life after the Boer War: Migrated to Australia from South Africa in 1908. Enlisted in World War I in the First Light Horse. Was injured at Gallipoli and repatriated to England. On return to Australia worked as caretaker, then nurseryman and market gardener. Married in 1925 and had one son.
