Reasons to go and fight: Delivered a herd of horses to Camp Cable Rd, Enoggera for sale to the Queensland Land Forces and enlisted (underage) with some of his men. (DUP QPF/33 Prt 2 Page 102)

Details of service in war: From June 1900 in Free State, Transvaal, and battle of Rhenoster Kop (29 November 1900), great De Wet hunt, advance on Petersburg and into east Transvaal. Wounded by shell fire at Jericho on 23 October 1900 and partially blinded. [Refer report by Lt A Bailey] He remained on duty until April 1901. He was eventually invalided from Table Bay on the TS Tongariro arriving in Sydney 30 April 1900 and arrived at Roma Street by train at 0800 on 5 May 1901. He was discharged medically unfit, after undergoing a Medical Board, on 17 May 1901. Click here for more details.

Service and life after the Boer War: Was granted a British Army Invalid pension, cancelled by the Australian Government after Federation! Took his frustration out on local Nebo graziers and spent two years as a guest of His Majesty on St Helena Island from 9 October 1906 to 4 June 1908. He then married and remained in the Mackay district.
