Service and life after the Boer War: In 1914 was married to Gertrude with three children, was a motor mechanic noted to be a "machinery expert" and living in Perth WA. Enlisted in the 1st AIF on 22 June 1916 as a private vehicle driver. Was transferred to the Australian Flying Corps on 10 April 1917. Embarked from Melbourne on 4 August 1917 for the UK. Saw service in France as an MT driver with the AFC. Returned to Australia in October 1919.
