Reasons to go and fight: On the way back from Aldershot Training in the UK with the NSW Lancers, he went to the Boer War in South Africa.
Details of service in war: From November 1899 in northern Cape Colony, Free State, and east Transvaal; including Colesberg, Praadeberg and relief of Kimberley (February 1900). He was wounded at Witkraus en route to Ermelo on 14 September 1900. He was invalided to Australia on the 17 February 1901.
Service and life after the Boer War: Ernest Rose had 5 children, 3 boys and 2 girls - 2 sons and one daughter survive today. My (Commodore Rose's) father Athol Lloyd Rose was his first born son and I am Athol's first born son. Ernest's wife was Marion Rose. My Grandfather was their son Leeson Ernest Rose who married Barbara Lee they also had 6 children. I am the eldest grandchild of Leeson Ernest Rose and Barbara Rose.
