Details of service in war: Discharge Certificate He was enrolled on the 27 February 1901, his conduct and character while in the service have been Exemplary, Discharge dated at Sydney 12 June 1902. Served May 1901 - May 1902 in west then east Transvaal then west Transvaal.

Service and life after the Boer War: Married Florence. Served in World War 1. Enlisted 5 May 1915, commissioned Second Lieutenant 18 Bn AIF 1 June 1915, Lieutenant 16 April 1916, promoted Captain at the Brigade Transport Office, 23 July 1916 and shortly after on the 30 September 1917 received the Military Cross "For exceptionally conscientious work and devotion to duty as Brigade Transport Officer ever since landing in France ... He is absolutely fearless in the execution of his duty and nightly at Pozieres conducted his transport convoy through the enemy's barrage of Shells in Sausage Valley, with coolness combined with pluck and dash.".
