Details of service in war: April 1901 - April 1902 in Free State and East Transvaal including Boer breakthrough at Langverwacht (24 February 1902).

Service and life after the Boer War: A welcome home party was given for him and several other Neville soldiers on 4 July 1902. About 70 townspeople met him and two other mates Radburn and Chandler about three kilometres from Neville with the town band. The band struck up with 'See the conquering hero comes' along with much hand shaking and cheering. The procession then marched through the town playing 'Home Sweet Home' along with other marches. The procession returned to the Post Office where it dispersed. A reception was later held in the Neville Hall. 73 people in the town contributed a total of over 15 Pounds to fund the welcome home party.
