Details of service in war: November 1899 - October 1900 in northern Cape Colony, Free State and in east Transvaal with 1
South Australian mounted Rifles where he was appointed Lance Corporal. After this service he joined the Bushveldt Carbineers as Field Intelligence Sgt No 154, serving in the Spelonken, an area to the east of what is now Polokwane. Service and life after the Boer War: Remained in South Africa, married Miriam Mildred Krog. Served as Private 10414 in the 3rd Regiment (Transvaal and Rhodesia) South African Infantry in World War 1. Died of wounds 20 April 1917. His brother Major Edward Castle Oldham who was killed Lone Pine Gallipoli 25/04/1915.
