Service and Life Before the Boer War: Claude sailed from England on 7 March 1890 on the ship Jumna, arriving in Queensland on 2 May 1890. He worked on sheep stations in the Longreach area before enlisting in the Boer War.

Details of service in war: From March 1900 in Free State, west and east Transvaal as a private with the 2nd QMI, invalided to Australia, arriving 25 August 1900. April 1901 - March 1902 as a lieutenant with the 5th QIB in east Transvaal, Free State including defeat at Mokari Drift (27 September 1901), and Natal border campaign including stand at Onverwacht (4 January 1902) where 13 died and 17 wounded.

Service and life after the Boer War: In 1906 Claude worked as a Crown Lands Ranger in Geraldton (now Innisfail) district in Queensland. He remained in this position until 3 March 1910 when he was employed by Queensland Railway as a Time Keeper, resigning and retiring on the 14 September 1927 at age 60.
