Details of service in war: From April 1900 in Rhodesia and west Transvaal. SACB was part of the second battalion, Rhodesian Field Force. Trooper Lovelock was Mentioned in despatches for taking water to CO Capt Hubbe. Severely wounded at Uitralskop near Mafikeng on 2 March 1901, had two horses shot from under him in same action. Invalided to Australia, arrived 23 July 1901.

Service and life after the Boer War: Was awarded a pension for bullet wound in right hip joint, of 1 shilling and 6 pence (15¢) per day. Returned to farming. Lost farm in Great Depression. set up Ice and Chaff business in Snowtown South Aust. Died of heart attack immediately after the great heat wave of 1939.
