Details of service in war: From May 1900 in Rhodesia and west Transvaal including capture of de la Rey's convoy and guns at Wildfontein (24 March 1901) invalided to Australia he arrived on the 2nd August 1901. He re-enlisted on the 21/4/1902 and was with the 5th Battilion Australian Commomwealth Horse. This splendid battilion had no chance of displaying its capabilities, the war having ended before its arrival. During its short stay in South Africa half the battilion was stationed at Newcastle Natal, and the other half at Durban and subsequently at Gilletts, Natal. The Battilion again embarked at Durban on the transport Manchaster Merchant on 1st July and disembarked at Sydney on 1st August 1902 having called at Albany, Adelaide, Melbourne, and Hobart en route.
