Details of service in war: The Third Contingent was designated as Mounted Infantry although they were recruited and referred to as Queensland Imperial Bushmen. They were embodied in the Rhodesian Field Force, and became the 2nd Regiment of this force and participated in operations in Rhodesia. They were then transferred to the Bushman's Brigade, and in Colonel Plumer's Column of this force assisted in the relief of Mafeking. Between July and November they were engaged in operations in Transvaal, east and west of Pretoria, taking a prominent part in the defence of Eland's River Camp in August. They were engaged in operations north of Cape Colony and in the Orange River Colony until April when they returned to the Transvaal.

Service and life after the Boer War: He lived quietly. His sister managed to preserve an original copy of George Witton's book 'Scapegoats of the Empire', when the Government recalled all copies she kept it in her underwear draw so know one could get it.
