Details of service in war: The 6th served side by side with the 7th New Zealanders and on the 2 February 1902 Col.Byng being then at Leibenberg's Vlei, to the west of Reitz, heard of a Boer convoy in the neighbourhood and at once pursued. The 6 QIB and the New Zealanders charged the enemy's rearguard with much gallantry whilst the South African Light Horse rushed the centre.After this, all the colomns in the district engagred in a big drive toward the railway;which operation ended on the 8 February when it was found that 300 prisoners had been taken.
Service and life after the Boer War: Married Margaret Ann, worked as an electrician's assistant, lived at Spring Hill, Victoria. He also served in WW1 #1334 8th Light Horse , joining the AIF on 7 September 1915 until 18 October 1918, saw service in Palestine. Lived in Fitzroy VIC when he returned to Australia.
