Personal Characteristics: Quiet, hard-working and honest. A very good carpenter and cabinet-maker.

Reasons to go and fight: In part, possibly to escape from his family environment. His mother and older brother died when he was young and his father had re-married and had a new family.

Details of service in war: In action at Rooipan 22/1/1900 when his mate Peter Falla was wounded in the arm. He was then made Batman to Captain Robert W.Salmon who died of Enteric fever at Naauwpoort 16/3/1900. He also suffered from enteric fever and was invalided home , arriving on 17/11/1900.

Service and life after the Boer War: Enlisted in the Militia in WW2 No. V150578 Joined the Victoria Police Force and served until his father asked him to come home and run the family building business as the father's health was failing.
